Hebrews 2:10-18
Hebrews 2:10-18 provides insight as to the comfort that we as Christians should be experiencing. Christ was born into the world to pave the way for humanity. He suffered to make sanctification possible for mankind and to share in their human trials in every way.
When I was a boy, we attended a family church. During those years, my family was very instrumental in teaching me to believe, to have faith, trust GOD and not to be afraid of life nor of death. That assurance has followed me throughout my entire life. I have taken opportunities to share my faith with others, friends and casual acquaintances. This has been accomplished partly through the way I have tried to live my life.
It was that same assurance that allowed me to understand that GOD sent his son to this earth as a human to suffer and die a painful death for my sins. I realized the value of my salvation and understood the cost. God’s glorious plan of my salvation was brought about through the infinite love of God. God’s love as manifested in the gift of God's beloved Son amazed even the holy angels. "God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
When I ponder the cost of my salvation, I am humbled. Jesus was tested by his suffering. We too are continually tested. It is up to each of us to have faith and to trust in him. Today when the trials of life seem overwhelming and I start to think the worse, it's as if I can hear a whisper, "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee," Psalm 56:3.
Prayer: Who am I Lord to come to you whining about the suffering that I have brought on myself through my disobedient choices, or that which is common to all human beings? As you through your grace and mercy suffered rejection and death for me, make me look to you to guide my life and give me a transformed attitude toward suffering for my neighbor and my God. Grow my faith and your kingdom in and through my life. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
