Be Prepared

1 Corinthians 2:1-13

As a youth, I joined Cub Scouts and moved up to Boy Scouts. The Boy Scout Motto is “Be Prepared”. Something so simply stated is a tool for Scouts to use not only in Scouting, but to prepare them for their life ahead.  For example, a rain poncho for the unexpected storm and extra food in case you burn your first attempt on the campfire.  Later, we need to have a rainy day fund for the unexpected, a gift for an uninvited visitor, we are to always try to think ahead and be prepared.

Paul was a brilliant person in his time, but in this letter about his first trip to Corinth, Paul tries to be simple to get his point across.  He tells us that while God’s wisdom is a mystery, we all have a hard time understanding, God’s wisdom is to be found in his Spirit.  By finding his Spirit, we will realize how God wants us to live and carry out His plan for us.

Paul tells us “that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”

As I go forward in my Christian life, I have tried to prepare myself for some of the unknown.  But who is really in control? Going forward, I now realize that if I truly love God, he will prepare me for all that I need.  While I may not see it, or hear it, or even think of it – God will prepare me for my life on earth with him and my life in heaven with him.

“Give us the strength to allow you, our God, to prepare us for our lives moving forward.”
