Trust

This passage is one of the few psalms addressed to the people and not to God. It is a lengthy and somewhat repetitious poem that continues past the 18th verse. There are many themes of wisdom here, reflecting lessons concerning good & evil, being prosperous & happy, and trusting, serving and waiting on the Lord. You might find it difficult to put your whole trust in God; yet, we are blessed to have many examples in the Bible that show us the rewards of stepping out in faith and putting our trust in a God who loves us and wants the best for us. Consider these examples and then add some others:
· Moses put his trust in God to enable him to free the Israelites from slavery and lead them into the Promised Land.
· Noah trusted God when he was being mocked for making an ark when the sun was shining.
· Joseph trusted God for his future when his brothers sold him into slavery.
· Abraham trusted God when he was prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac.
· Mary and Joseph trusted when they were told that they had been chosen to raise the son of God.

When I find myself doubting where I am going, I am reminded of Proverbs 3:5-6 which says: “Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.”

I had to trust God to hold me up when my father died the day before my junior year in college began.

I had to trust God that He had a better plan for me when my childhood dreams of becoming a stewardess was changed.

I had to trust God when my daughter left home to teach in Ireland for 7 weeks & I had to keep on trusting God when that same daughter said she was going to Haiti.

Through each stage of my life, I have become assured that the true source of happiness comes from learning to trust in God, and that’s where my ultimate joy and peace comes from. What about you?
