A Prophet Unwelcome in His Hometown

When Jesus arrived in his hometown, accompanied by his disciples, He received no acclaim or recognition. Treating Him as none other than a regular man, He was amazed at their lack of belief and could do no more miracles than healing a few ill.

Afterwards, He tells people that they should go into a town in full faith that the townsfolk will accept them, and, if they don’t, that they should leave.

The real message here is that prophets and other important people are often unwelcome in their own hometowns. Don’t be a villager. Don’t turn on people who have come to you for kindness. Show hospitality, as Jesus would. To all people, those who have loved you for years, and those who abruptly enter; offer what you have, which, if nothing else, is love.

If someone does not think your way, yet still stands at your door, you must let him in. It’s your duty and obligation as a Christian to let all who seek comfort and solace, those who even jeer at you and your convictions. It’s hard, but it must be done.

If your annoying co-worker Brenda comes over to your house, desperately needing a stick of butter, give her a stick of butter. It’s what Jesus would want you to do. If your boss is so obnoxious that you desire to throw him in a professional boxing match, but still, he needs a staple out of your stapler, give him a staple. It’s what Jesus would want you to do. You never know what could come from a person, so don’t send anybody rudely away.
