Death by Consumption

We live in a culture of consumption.  Buying the new thing, eating the new food, or watching the new show are often the focal points of our social interactions and can sometimes constitute our life goals.

What we consume shapes us; physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.  It is easy to see that if you eat only food that is poor in nutrition, your health will decline.  As your body adapts to these foods, you will soon crave that which is destroying you, making healthy habits hard to adopt. Thanks to their adherence to the law, Daniel and his friends avoided the “choice foods” from the royal table despite their succulence and stuck with wholesome foods, though not wrapped in bacon, and proved to be healthier than the other young men from the king’s table.

What you read, watch, buy, listen to, or study will poison your inner self just as surely as that deep fried, bacon wrapped Oreo ice cream. Just like eating, those things that can poison us are often the most instantaneously pleasing. An angry pontificator who agrees with our fears, a delightfully horrible TV show, writers that belittle instead of beatify, can all seduce us from healthy pursuits. These consumables will not only poison us, but can spread to those that we love.

Evaluate what you consume. Compare it to the what Christ taught us.  Eliminate that which is poison and live healthy again. Good Health of mind, body, and spirit is not only good for you, it is Good.
