I think that in some ways January first is a lot like Lent. During the first of the year, people make promises how they are going to better themselves. For example: I’m going to lose weight this year, I’m going to exercise each day, or maybe stop smoking. New Years is a time of making good changes for the sake of good health. Sometimes, people enlist the help of a professional trainer in order to help them reach their physical goals. The season of Lent, I like to think, is a time of making good changes for the sake of good spiritual health.
I really like Psalm 51:1-17.The Psalmist is crying out to God for spiritual cleansing. “Wash me and I will be whiter than snow”. A trainer only works with our physical bodies, a body that is seen only from the outside.
But our Heavenly Trainer, can see both the outer being and our inner, as well. Our Heavenly Father not only wants to heal our spiritual health, but He loves us and longs for a relationship with each and everyone. All we have to do is believe. IT IS ALL FREE! This, my friends, is the bargain of all times. He will heal our broken spirit, wash us white as snow, and is preparing a place for us one day to live with Him for eternity.
Make sure that you have asked God to be your Heavenly Trainer and enjoy an everlasting relationship through Jesus Christ, His Son!
