God hears our cries...

You are God alone,
You are on your throne.

Unshakable. Unchangeable.

How comforting these words are, especially to one who has seen some trouble in their life.   In looking at Psalm 88, it seems as if this person, perhaps King David, has seen his share (and someone else’s share) of trouble.  Have you felt like that before?  Have you felt that God has forgotten you or no longer hears you cry out to Him?  This is where our psalmist is.

Our family has seen a good deal of trouble.  We have been through the death of my father-in-law, nephew and mother-in-law. Within all of that, there has been a loss of a job, financial hardship and some health problems. At times, it seems as if God is far removed, on vacation perhaps in a sunny, tropical paradise.  But even in troubled times, I know that God is with me. As the beginning of the Psalm states:  “O Lord, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you.  May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry.”

I think it is comforting to know that we all go through ups and downs.  We should expect them. “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”  2 Corinthians 4:17. In a way, we have a measuring stick that reminds us that things are sometimes bad but they could be worse and of course, they will get better.  Because we know that if we shift our focus back on God and his unchangeable love, He will save us.  He is still with us and we can make it through tough times. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord “plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11. God is not done with us yet. He is and will always be our Savior God, full of unending love and amazing Grace.

PRAYER:

Lord, We praise you as our Unshakable, Unchangeable God.  We thank you for never giving up on us.  Help us to keep our hand in yours. Amen.
