A Father's Love

Psalm 91:4
He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

As a small child, I adored my father.
I was always sorry when he left in the mornings for work and looked forward all day to his coming home in the evening.  I can remember in the summer how scary thunder storms could be.  My father was not frightened, of course, and would open the door wide so that I could see the lightning and hear the thunder.  As we watched, he would tell me how lucky I was to see such a beautiful sight and that the storm could not hurt me.  I was never afraid in the shelter of his arms.

Verse 4 of Psalm 91 says that God has the same tender regard for us His children as my Father had for me.  It is so reassuring to know that we can always find warmth and comfort under the shelter of His wings.  Even in a world filled with distractions and confusion we can rely on his word as our guide and his shield and his armor as our protection.  Just as I could always go to my earthy father as a child, I can go to my Heavenly Father as an adult.

PRAYER: Lord, during this Lenten season please help us to remember that we are secure in your care. Help us also to know that your word is our light and your steadfast love our comfort.  Thank you for your many blessings. We love you and thank you for your son.   Amen
